"The afflicted and needy are seeking water, but there is none, and their tongue is parched with thirst. I, the LORD, will answer them Myself, as the God of Israel I will not forsake them." (Isaiah 41:17)
"...'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' "(Matthew: 25:40)
Our Social Service Ministry is an attempt to manifest the Lord’s grace and compassion. In it we provide creature comfort to the needy in more ways than one:
Blood & NMDP Drive
In these troubling times when we are living under the shadow of looming natural disasters and the threat of terrorism, it is important that we do what we can to help others - not only in words
but in deeds. Nothing helps others more than donating blood and signing up to be a marrow donor. Therefore, we have allied ourselves with City of Hope and American Red Cross to organize local blood and NMDP drives.
After all, saving someone´s life is more than most people can claim!
Disaster Relief
As Christians, we are sensitive not only to the suffering of our local community; we are dedicated to the global horizon, too. When disaster strikes, from South East Asia´s Tsunami to Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana and Mississippi, we immediately mobilize to help. To date, the disaster relief fund among to close to $8,000 to aid those who lost their home and even loved ones in Hurricane Katrina.
World Vision Malawi Hope Child Project
The whole continent of Africa is plagued by AIDS. Entire villages have been decimated. Millions of children are either orphaned or they grow up haunted by the same deadly disease. We partner with World Vision to financially sponsor these children by addressing their immediate and most desperate needs: food, water and medication. The program also invests in farm animals & infrastructures so that these families can be self-sufficient in the long haul. By helping those who are most desperately in needs, two lives are forever changed: the Hope child´s and yours!
World Vision 30 Hour Famine
Famine-ravaged nations in the third world are forever stricken with poverty and hopelessness. FECDB joins World Vision in this program raising funds to support long-term development projects and also provide emergency relief to help break the cycle of hunger and poverty worldwide. Teenagers in FECDB are sponsored to gather together for 30 hours without food while they learn more about hunger through resources, games, and activity ideas provided by World Vision.
Habit for Humanity Project
We are the richest country on earth, but not all of us get to share the "American dream". We join Habit for Humanity International to build affordable housing for the needy. We shed tears and sweat, and in return, the neediest of our community gets more than a safe place to live - they get love, they get dignity, and they get a chance to start over with their lives.
Phonics Class for New Immigrants
Many new immigrants set foot in this land ill-prepared to assimilate into the American melting pot. We seek to give guidance to new immigrants as well as phonics class training so that they can maximize their potential in this "Land of the Free".
In-Community Donation Program
Many of us in the community are blessed with abundance of earthly treasure. We encourage all our members to volunteer and share their extra blanket or microwave oven or toaster or TV set with the less fortunate among us. Not only do we seek to help the needy, we are preserving the Earth´s precious resources.
